Welcome to the DSBM Mentorship Program! Our distinctive, multi-year program is crafted for those keen to expand their expertise in botanical medicine, blending traditional educational approaches with the latest in technology. This page outlines the application process for our hands-on training at our herbal farm along the scenic Sunshine Coast of BC.
Program Overview
The Mentorship Program melds online courses, exploratory learning adventures, group intensives, and a clinical practicum into a rich curriculum designed to mold students into adept practitioners. Program highlights include:
- Self-Paced, Modular Learning: Engage with our online learning platform at your own pace. It includes courses, Q&As, webinars, and group forums, offering deep knowledge and community interaction with maximum flexibility and minimum expense.
- Hands-On Group Intensives: Meet for one-week intensives, five times a year, over three years. Each session, hosted on our farm and studio, delves into clinical specialties like gastroenterology, immunology, and rheumatology. We cover pathophysiology, materia medica, nutrition, clinical assessments, lab investigations, and more, emphasizing practical, holistic applications.
- Overseas Training (Optional): Gain unparalleled experience and skills in Ayurveda through connections with seasoned professionals in Nepal and India.
- Clinical Practicum: Apply your learning in real-world scenarios under expert supervision. The program includes 200 hours of supervised training, with the initial 50 hours completed at our school and the option to complete the remaining 150 hours with qualified herbalists in your local area.
Assessment
Before graduating, students must finish three online programs—Food As Medicine, Inside Ayurveda, and Phytomedica—either prior to or during the mentorship. Additional coursework and group projects are part of each intensive. Success in these areas leads to a certificate for each session, accumulating to 15 certificates. Completion of the Group Intensive program and clinical practicum, coupled with the director’s confidence in a student’s abilities, will result in a graduation diploma. Students needing further study to address any deficiencies will receive tailored recommendations for additional learning, ensuring each graduate not only earns a diploma but also a personal and professional endorsement from the director—a reflection of our commitment to traditional educational values that have shaped herbalist training for millennia.
Anticipated Cost
The estimated tuition for the Group Intensive program, spanning approximately 650 hours over three years, is between $10-12K CAN. This does not cover textbooks, study resources, travel, food, or lodging. Clinical practicum costs will vary by circumstance.
