Job Opportunity: Communications and Administrative Assistant

The Dogwood School of Botanical Medicine (DSBM) was founded in 2012 by Todd Caldecott, a veteran herbalist with more than 23 years of experience, specializing in the transmission of Ayurveda, herbal medicine, and clinical nutrition. We are looking for an assistant to oversee the School’s communications efforts as well as provide administrative support.

Requirements and Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with a background in education and/or experience in communications and/or public relations and/or marketing practices, including tools of visual design and digital communications. Desired experiences and skills include:

  • Knowledge of business office procedures;
  • Experience with Adobe Suite (Photoshop, InDesign) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook);
  • Excellent time management, planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and work effectively;
  • Proactive attitude and willingness to assume leadership and work independently;
  • Effective oral and written communication;
  • Experience in content creation and writing for digital communications;
  • Interest in herbal medicine, Ayurveda and health is an asset.

You will be responsible for the creation, execution, and supervision of the communications strategy and for performing administrative tasks related to the School’s operations. This includes:

  • Creating and maintaining a communications calendar, updating and editing the database, and organizing events;
  • Developing text for print and online channels, preparing and posting content, gathering user and content analytics data;
  • Identifying suppliers (video production, photography, design and online services), and supervising their work.

Commitment and remuneration

This is a one year contract for a part-time position that could evolve into a full-time position, with an initial month salary of CAD $1500. Start date is Sept 1 2018.
